2-8-2023 (TAIPEI) In a significant development, Taiwanese comedian-host Nono found himself summoned by the police to the Taipei District Prosecutor’s Office for questioning on accusations of sexual assault and harassment. The 52-year-old entertainer was alone at his residence in Neihu District when the police arrived earlier today (Aug 2).
Maintaining a seemingly calm demeanor, Nono greeted the officers with the acknowledgment that he would have to face this situation sooner or later. Following the police’s visit to his home, they seized his computer and communication devices before taking him to the prosecutor’s office for further interrogation.
The allegations against Nono emerged when internet celebrity Anissa (also known as Little Red Teacher) took to her social media platforms on June 20 to share her harrowing experience involving a person she referred to as “Brother N,” presumably Nono himself. Anissa accused him of sexually assaulting her after she sought help from him when facing molestation by a baseball player’s manager. According to her account, Brother N inappropriately touched her and forced a kiss on her, later taking her to a park where he repeated his indecent actions.
This revelation prompted other victims to come forward, leading to at least 30 women sharing their own stories of being sexually assaulted or harassed by Nono over the past two decades. The severity of the allegations and the scale of the reported incidents have caused a public uproar.
Nono initially responded to the accusations through his manager, claiming no recollection of the events. However, the situation escalated when Anissa held a press conference on June 21, revealing more details of Nono’s alleged wrongdoings, including one victim who was only 15 years old at the time of the sexual violation.
In response to the mounting pressure and grave allegations, Nono announced on Facebook on the same day that he would be suspending his activities in the entertainment industry to engage in deep reflection.
Amidst the ongoing investigation, a screenshot of a conversation emerged on Anissa’s Facebook page on July 18, allegedly involving a member of a Taiwanese triad, hinting at threats against her if she pursued legal action against Nono. Anissa made it clear that any harm to her life or body during this period would not be her own doing, and she called on the police to investigate the matter thoroughly.
For the past 41 days, Nono has remained absent from the public eye while more victims shared their stories through Anissa. Today, as he arrived at the prosecutor’s office in a black van, a crowd of reporters and the public eagerly sought answers from him. However, Nono maintained silence throughout, ignoring questions regarding his alleged wrongdoings and the victims.
Nono’s wife, singer Angel Chu, was also present at the prosecutor’s office, delivering a white envelope. She did not respond to reporters’ inquiries about her relationship to Nono or the purpose of her visit.
Following the brief interrogation, Nono was reportedly released on bail of NT$500,000 (S$21,000). The investigation continues, and the public awaits further developments as the legal proceedings unfold.
