1-8-2023 (JAKARTA) Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan has revealed that high intellectuals, researchers, graduates of top universities, and influential people such as ChatGPT CEO Sam Altman qualify for the Golden Visa residence permit in Indonesia. The visa programme is being revised to attract more foreign investors to the country.
“We are harmonizing the Golden Visa regulation, and the revision of the Government Regulation (PP) is expected to be completed in the upcoming weeks,” Pandjaitan said.
The Golden Visa is a special visa for investors to stay in Indonesia for 5-10 years. Pandjaitan revealed that President Joko Widodo will grant the visa to Altman due to his frequent visits to Indonesia.
Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno stated that the Golden Visa policy was already in the finalization stage and would come into effect after being signed by the president.
The visa policy aims to attract foreigners from the upper middle class, especially businesspersons and global talents, to contribute to building the national economy. The visa holders will get a stay permit in Indonesia for several years and are expected to invest their capital in the country, bringing benefits to Indonesia.
