27-7-2023 (BEIJING) Chinese President Xi Jinping expressed China’s commitment to strengthening strategic cooperation with Indonesia during a meeting with Indonesian President Joko Widodo on Thursday (Jun 27) in the city of Chengdu, as reported by CCTV.
President Widodo’s visit to China is for the opening ceremony of the FISU World University Games in Chengdu.
During the meeting, President Xi emphasized the need for both countries to ensure the timely and high-quality completion of the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway, a significant project under Indonesia’s Belt and Road Initiative. The railway has faced delays due to budgetary issues and is already four years behind schedule.
“The two sides should exert maximum efforts to ensure the successful completion of the last phase of construction and maintain the project’s high standard and quality,” President Xi stated.
In addition to the railway project, President Xi conveyed China’s willingness to increase imports of Indonesian bulk commodities and agricultural products. He also highlighted potential areas of collaboration, including new energy automobiles and the development of smart cities.
