20-7-2023 (GUANGDONG) An anonymous company in Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province, China, has been accused of secretly monitoring its employees by taking pictures of them in the toilet. According to a report by China Press, the company took these photos to monitor their work conditions, causing dissatisfaction among employees. The supervisor sent the pictures to the group and ordered an investigation, which led to controversy. The incident has now been reported to the local police, who are conducting an investigation into the matter.
The company has not been named, but a photo allegedly showing monitors installed in the toilet to secretly take pictures of employees going to the bathroom was exposed on social media platforms. A manager of the company, surnamed Xie, posted the photo of three employees going to the bathroom in the group, pointing out that none of the three actually used the facilities.
After the incident sparked controversy, the police went to the company to investigate and found no monitors in the toilets. The police have yet to determine how the photos were leaked and have promised to conduct further investigations.
Going to the toilet during working hours is unavoidable, however, some employees take advantage of the time to slack, which can cause dissatisfaction among their bosses who may feel that this is a form of “paid shit”. However, secretly monitoring employees in the toilet is a concerning invasion of privacy and could have legal consequences.
