19-7-2023 (JAKARTA) Indonesia and Malaysia have signed 10 agreements, collaborations, and memoranda of understanding (MoUs) in the higher education sector involving numerous agencies, associations, and universities from both countries. The move aims to further strengthen the relationship between the two countries in the higher education sector and promote research and development.
The University of Technology Malaysia (UTM) and the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) agreed to collaborate to promote research and development, while the National Council of Professors (Majlis Profesor Negara/MPN) and the Indonesian Professors Forum (FGBI) have agreed to cooperate on raising 17 sustainable development agendas (SDGs).
The National University of Malaysia (UKM) and PT Tracol Asia will work together to open a UKM Offshore Center in Jakarta. UKM and Padjadjaran University aim to produce 250 doctoral graduates in medicine, while UKM and the Indonesian University of Education plan to produce 3,000 undergraduates and postgraduates.
The Northern University Malaysia (Universiti Utara Malaysia/UUM) and State Islamic University (UIN) Raden Fatah Palembang have agreed to collaborate, as have UUM and UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya, and the University of Malaya (UM) and State University of Malang (UNM) in the field of science and human resources.
The Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) and North Sumatra Muhammadiyah University (UMSU) plan to work together to improve academic feasibility, while the National Energy University (Universiti Tenaga Nasional/UNITEN) and PLN Institute of Technology aim to realize international strategic initiatives in the energy sector.
The Director-General of Higher Education, Research, and Technology at the Indonesian Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, Prof. Ir. Nizam, expressed his hope that the collaborations would deepen the friendly relations between the two countries and support economic growth through human development and innovation, given that the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is currently the center of global economic growth.
