15-7-2023 (PHNOM PENH) Cambodia has issued a warning to travelers and fishermen, advising them to stay on land from July 16 to 20 due to the impact of an approaching typhoon. The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology released a statement on Friday, stating that the kingdom will be affected by a typhoon brewing over the South China Sea before moving on to northern Vietnam through the Philippines.
According to the statement, this situation will cause low-to-moderate rainfall in the lowlands and highlands of Cambodia, while coastal provinces will experience moderate-to-heavy rainfall from July 16 to 20. The sea will also experience strong wind and high waves.
To avoid any possible dangers, the statement urged people to be extra vigilant. Preah Sihanouk Provincial Governor Kuoch Chamroeun also issued a statement on Saturday, instructing tour boat operators, taxi boats, and fishermen to halt their trips to sea until the weather improves.
“Any trips to the sea must be temporarily suspended until the weather has improved,” he said in a video clip posted on his official Facebook page.
This warning comes as Cambodia has been experiencing a surge in COVID-19 cases, with the government implementing strict lockdown measures to control the spread of the virus. The typhoon warning will add another layer of caution for those living in coastal areas of the country.
Cambodia’s coastal provinces, including Preah Sihanouk, Kampot, Kep, and Koh Kong, are popular tourist destinations, known for their beautiful beaches and seafood. However, with the typhoon warning in place, tourists are advised to postpone their trips until the weather improves.
