9-7-2023 (MANILA) The Philippine National Police (PNP) has taken significant strides to enhance its information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure. In a memorandum of agreement signed on Friday, PNP Chief General Benjamin Acorda Jr. announced a partnership with the Philippine Fiber Optic Cabling Network Ltd. Inc. (PFCON) to conduct a proof of concept aimed at interconnecting the PNP’s national headquarters with selected police units across the country.
In a statement, General Acorda expressed confidence that the collaboration with PFCON would open up new possibilities for the PNP, allowing them to witness firsthand the advantages of fiber optic networks, such as improved speed, reliability, and security of communication systems.
The primary objective of this partnership is to explore the potential use of fiber optic technology and other innovative solutions to meet the PNP’s growing demands for enhanced ICT infrastructure. The infrastructure plan entails interconnecting the PNP’s main headquarters at Camp Crame in Quezon City with its regional, provincial, city, and municipal offices. By establishing a robust communications infrastructure, the PNP aims to achieve efficient and seamless communication across all levels of the organization.
“We are hopeful that this undertaking will make a significant contribution to our efforts in modernizing the PNP and aligning ourselves with global law enforcement standards,” added General Acorda.
The PNP eagerly anticipates the outcome of the project, as it will provide valuable insights into the potential benefits and feasibility of utilizing fiber optic technology and other advanced solutions in the PNP’s information and communications systems. This strategic move demonstrates the PNP’s commitment to staying at the forefront of technological advancements in order to enhance its capabilities and improve its overall effectiveness in serving and protecting the nation.
