2-7-2023 (JAKARTA) The Jakarta provincial government is taking steps to improve the air quality of the capital city by procuring electric-powered official vehicles. The move is in line with the Regional Development Plan, according to Acting Governor Heru Budi Hartono, who announced the initiative on Sunday.
Hartono stated that in the near future, vehicles powered by renewable energy will be put into operation. He added that some public transportation, such as buses in Jakarta, already use electric engines. The use of electric vehicles will help to reduce fossil fuel consumption and decrease carbon emissions, he said.
The acting governor emphasized that heavy machinery like backhoes will still use oil-based fuel, but in the future, only such machinery will require it. Hartono encouraged the people of Jakarta to use electric vehicles or conventional vehicles, especially motorcycles, that have been converted to electric propulsion without hesitation.
Hartono expressed his confidence that in the near future, all two-wheeled vehicles in Jakarta will switch to electric motorcycles. To support this transition, the government is considering incentive programs for the public.
As an example, Hartono revealed that he has been using a hybrid car as his official vehicle for the past week. He stated that he finds the hybrid car to be just as comfortable as regular fuel-powered vehicles. The procurement of electric-powered official vehicles is a significant step towards a cleaner and more sustainable future for Jakarta.
