2-7-2023 9YOGYAKARTA) The Health Ministry has swiftly established the Public Safety Center (PSC) 119 to provide assistance to those affected by the recent earthquake in the Bantul, Kulon Progo, and Gunung Kidul districts of Yogyakarta. In a statement received on Saturday, Siti Nadia Tarmizi, Head of the Communication and Public Services Bureau of the ministry, revealed that personnel and medical facilities have been deployed near the affected areas in collaboration with the local Health Office.
Tarmizi provided an update on the number of casualties, stating, “As of 11 p.m. on Friday, June 30, there were four injured individuals in Bantul District, two in Gunung Kidul District, two in Sleman District, and one fatality who tragically fell from a bed due to the shock of the earthquake.” She assured that all injured victims have received medical treatment and emphasized that an ample supply of medicines and medical equipment is available to handle any additional cases that may arise.
To ensure prompt response and assistance, the Emergency Medical Team (EMT) is prepared for immediate dispatch to the earthquake-affected areas if required. The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) provided information indicating that the earthquake, measuring 6.4 magnitude, originated in the sea approximately 68 kilometers southwest of Bantul. The seismic activity resulted in houses losing their roofs and sustaining wall damage in various locations. Similarly, homes in the Gunung Kidul district were also affected by the tremors. Additionally, the walls of Rizki Amalia Lendah Hospital in Kulon Progo were damaged, although there were no reported casualties, and all patients remained safe and unharmed.
In total, the disaster caused damage to 17 sites, including residential buildings, government facilities, medical centers, and educational institutions. The BMKG recorded subsequent earthquakes measuring 4.5 magnitude at 8:40 p.m. local time. The agency appealed to the public to avoid entering damaged structures and urged individuals to ensure the structural integrity of their homes to withstand future earthquakes.
