1-7-2023 (BANGKOK) Late on Friday night, a magnitude 5.0 earthquake struck Myanmar, causing tremors that were felt in several districts of Chiang Rai and nearby regions, as confirmed by the Meteorological Department.
According to the Earthquake Observation Division of the department, the seismic event occurred at 11:46 pm in Myanmar, approximately 100 kilometers away from Mae Sai district in Chiang Rai.
Residents in Mae Sai, Mae Chan, and Muang districts of this northern province, along with residents in nearby areas, reported experiencing the tremors. Some individuals residing in high-rise buildings also noticed their structures shaking.
Local authorities swiftly dispatched officials to evaluate any potential damage in the affected areas. Thankfully, there have been no reports of casualties thus far.
The situation will continue to be monitored closely, and authorities remain vigilant in ensuring the safety and well-being of the residents.
