29-6-2023 (JAKARTA) Investment Minister Bahlil Lahadalia has urged global companies specializing in certification and software testing to establish battery testing facilities in Indonesia to support the development of the electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem in the country.
Minister Lahadalia made the request during a meeting with Todd Denison, Senior Vice President of Global Regions at UL Solutions, in the United States on Monday.
The minister emphasized that as time goes on, domestic demand for EVs in Indonesia will increase. The government is committed to producing EVs that prioritize user safety and security.
The Investment Ministry seeks to collaborate with UL Solutions to create an EV ecosystem that ensures the safety of EV users.
“Furthermore, the establishment of this EV battery ecosystem is crucial in reducing carbon emissions on Earth,” Lahadalia stated in a press release on Wednesday.
Denison, on the other hand, expressed optimism about the potential for developing the EV ecosystem in Indonesia, citing a commitment to clean energy and emissions reduction, similar to that of the United States.
UL Solutions is supportive of securing new innovations such as EV battery technology. Denison pointed out that currently, battery testing facilities in Asia are only available in China.
The company will conduct a further assessment to determine the feasibility of establishing battery test points in Indonesia.
The Indonesian government has been actively encouraging the creation of an EV battery ecosystem by facilitating business licenses for investors interested in investing in the industry.
Minister Lahadalia emphasized that technological advancement must go hand in hand with user security.
The discussion between Denison and Lahadalia is expected to progress to a more significant stage, potentially resulting in a formal cooperation agreement between Indonesia and UL Solutions.
