27-6-2023 (TAIPEI) The #MeToo movement in Taiwan has seen a new wave of allegations against celebrities, with Hey Girl’s member Tina Chou, also known as Da Ya, accusing Blackie Chen, the 46-year-old actor-host of the variety show Blackie’s Teenage Club, of sexual assault in 2012. Hey Girl was active from 2006 to 2013 and co-hosted the show with Chen.
In a Facebook post, Chou alleged that Chen made a suggestive remark to her in the car, after which he pressured her to reveal her room number in a hotel in Hong Kong. Later, he visited her room and allegedly hugged her from behind, despite her protests. Chou claimed that Chen even made inappropriate remarks and tried to invite her to his room.
Chou said that she was afraid to fall out with Chen, as he had previously benched her on the show. Chou also alleged that Chen had a perfect public image with his wife, singer Christine Fan, and was shocked by his behaviour.
Chen has denied all allegations through his lawyer, stating that the shoots in Hong Kong in 2012 were done in groups and there was no one-to-one situation. Chen also called the allegations without evidence and false and has stated that he does not tolerate any attempt to defame him with malicious intent.
Chou’s allegations are the latest in a series of similar accusations against celebrities in Taiwan, with some of the accused having a perfect gentleman image. The #MeToo movement has encouraged more victims to speak up and seek justice, and it is hoped that these allegations will lead to a safer and fairer environment for all.
