25-6-2023 (TAIPEI) Taiwanese cuisine knows no limits, a unique restaurant in Yunlin, Taiwan has gained attention on social media for its latest menu item – “Godzilla crocodile ramen”. The dish features a bowl of rich ramen topped with a black crocodile foot, and is priced at NT$1500 (approximately S$65). The restaurant, called “Witch Cat Kui”, requires customers to make a reservation for the limited-time dish and only offers it for dine-in.
Photos of the dish posted on the restaurant’s Facebook page show the crocodile foot on top of the ramen, along with corn shoots, black fungus, quail eggs, and lemon slices as garnish. The foot’s claws are still attached, adding to the visual impact of the dish.
The dish has sparked a heated discussion among netizens, with some expressing disgust and others expressing curiosity. Some online commenters have criticized the restaurant for “playing with food”, while others have praised the taste of crocodile meat and expressed a desire to try the dish.
The restaurant has also reminded customers that they must receive a confirmation from the restaurant to complete their reservation, and anyone who only comes to take photos without actually eating the ramen will be charged a “food waste fee” of NT$100 (approximately S$4.30).
The “Godzilla crocodile ramen” joins a growing list of unique Taiwanese dishes, including ramen with king beetle, durian, and frog meat. These dishes have been praised by some for their creativity and boldness, while others have criticized them as gimmicks that exploit novelty for attention.
