15-8-2024 (SINGAPORE) A heart-wrenching incident unfolded in Singapore on Thursday morning, as a seven-year-old primary school student lost her life in a fatal accident involving a school bus. The tragic event occurred at approximately 6:20 am in the car park of The Topiary, an executive condominium located on Fernvale Lane in Sengkang.
According to eyewitness reports, the young girl was waiting for her school bus in the car park area when she was struck by another school vehicle entering the premises. Emergency services were promptly called to the scene, and the child was rushed to hospital in critical condition. Tragically, she succumbed to her injuries shortly after arrival.
The victim’s brother, visibly distraught, spoke to reporters at the scene. He revealed that the bus which struck his sister was not the one she was waiting for, but another vehicle that had entered the compound moments earlier. He explained that multiple school buses typically arrive at the condominium around the same time each morning to collect students.
“We’ve been told that the driver was checking his left-side mirror and didn’t see my sister standing in front. He only realised he had hit something when he felt the impact,” the brother stated, his voice heavy with grief.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, with residents expressing deep concern over safety measures for children waiting for school transport. Several police vehicles were observed at the scene, and officers were seen examining a white school bus surrounded by evidence markers.
A spokesperson for the Singapore Police Force confirmed that they received an alert about the incident at 6:20 am. They stated that a seven-year-old female pedestrian was pronounced dead after being taken to hospital in an unconscious state. The 67-year-old male bus driver has been arrested on charges of causing death by negligent driving, and investigations are ongoing.
