25-5-2023 (Jakarta) – A 6.2-magnitude earthquake struck Indonesia’s eastern province of Maluku on Wednesday evening, but there were no reports of a tsunami, according to the country’s meteorology, climatology, and geophysics agency.
The earthquake occurred at 22:49 p.m. Jakarta time (1549 GMT), with its epicenter located 203 km northwest of the Kepulauan Tanimbar (Maluku Tenggara Barat) district, and a depth of 221 km beneath the seabed, the agency said in a statement.
Although the earthquake was powerful, it did not generate any giant waves that could potentially cause damage. The tremors were felt in nearby areas, but there were no immediate reports of casualties or damage to property.
