26-10-2023 (CLINTON) In a tragic incident that has shaken the community, five individuals were discovered dead from gunshot wounds at a residence in southeast North Carolina. Sampson County Sheriff Jimmy Thornton confirmed the devastating news, stating that deputies received a call regarding a homicide at a home located off Garland Highway, just outside Clinton, shortly before 1 a.m. on Thursday.
According to reports from various news outlets, upon arriving at the scene, law enforcement officers found the lifeless bodies of five individuals with gunshot injuries. The sheriff’s office is currently investigating the incident and has yet to gather any information regarding the identity of a suspect or the connection between the victims.
During a press conference, Capt. Eric Pope revealed that authorities received a distressing 911 call from an individual who had spoken to one of the victims at approximately 11 p.m. The caller then made the shocking discovery of the bodies upon visiting the residence. The victims, ranging in age from their mid-30s to their 80s, include four men and one woman.
Sheriff Thornton expressed the profound impact of the incident on the local community, emphasizing that such acts of violence are far from the norm. He stated, “This is not normal for our community. It is not normal for any community. It should shock the conscience.”
