28-5-2023 (HUNAN) In a shocking incident on the afternoon of May 26, a 4-year-old boy in Hunan Province, China, reenacted a scene from a cartoon by using an umbrella instead of a parachute. He then leaped from the window of his family’s 26th-floor apartment, resulting in multiple broken bones but miraculously surviving the fall.
After mimicking the cartoon plot, the young boy’s body first collided with a tree on the way down before landing on the ground below. Despite his lightweight and the presence of an umbrella in his hand, the impact from falling such a great height caused severe injuries, including fractures throughout his body, including his arms and legs.
According to reports, the boy’s family had installed anti-theft nets at the front door of their 26th-floor apartment but had not extended them to the balcony due to its height. Additionally, the parents, who often work in other provinces, relied on the grandmother to care for their two grandchildren. At the time of the incident, the grandmother was downstairs picking up the boy’s older sister.
Following the news, netizens expressed astonishment, with some calling it a “miracle” and questioning how the child survived without divine intervention. Others highlighted the boy’s adventurous spirit and imaginative thinking. Many urged parents to install anti-theft windows to prevent similar accidents. Some shared their own childhood desires to try using an umbrella as a parachute or boat, emphasizing the need for supervision and safety measures.
