21-5-2024 (KUALA LUMPUR) In a bizarre incident that has sparked outrage and disbelief, four individuals found themselves on the wrong side of the law for engaging in a culinary misadventure at an unlikely location – a petrol station in the popular hill resort of Genting Highlands. The group, comprising three women and a man, each faced a fine of RM500 after pleading guilty to endangering others by audaciously cooking instant noodles using a gas stove amidst the flammable environment.
The quartet – Fadhli Zil Ikram, 24, Nurfatin Irdina Shahrulnizam, 24, Nur Anis Salleh, 24, and Nur Azira Azman, 23 – appeared before Magistrate Nadratun Naiem Zainan on Tuesday, where the charges were read out to them. They were accused of committing the offenses at approximately 1:30 a.m. on May 12 at a petrol station in Taman Cendawan, near Genting Highlands.

Magistrate Nadratun expressed her incredulity at the group’s actions, questioning the accused about their thought process behind cooking at a petrol station. “Don’t you know it’s dangerous to cook at a petrol station? And then you uploaded it on social media,” she admonished, referring to the viral video that sparked the controversy.
The quartet faced charges under Section 336 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same Act, which carries a maximum prison sentence of three months, a fine of up to RM500, or both. During the mitigation process, each of the accused requested a lower fine, citing their responsibility to support their families and acknowledging that this was their first offense.
However, Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Zamharir Muhammad Zuhid insisted on an appropriate punishment to serve as a lesson to the accused and the public. Ultimately, Magistrate Nadratun imposed a RM500 fine on each individual, with the alternative of three days in prison if the fine remained unpaid. All four promptly paid the fines.
The incident came to light after a video surfaced on TikTok and other social media platforms, depicting the group nonchalantly cooking instant noodles and other food while parked at the gas station. The footage quickly went viral, provoking anger and disbelief among netizens who condemned the reckless and potentially dangerous behavior.
