15-8-2024 (TOKYO) A earthquake of moderate intensity struck Japan’s Kanagawa Prefecture on Thursday evening, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA). The tremor, which occurred at 8:20 p.m. local time on August 15, 2024, measured 4.4 on the Richter scale and registered 4 on Japan’s seismic intensity scale, which ranges from 0 to 7.
The epicentre was pinpointed at coordinates N 35.4, E 139.1, placing it squarely within Kanagawa Prefecture, a densely populated region south of Tokyo.
Despite the perceptible tremor, the JMA has not issued a tsunami warning, alleviating concerns of potential coastal threats.
