6-1-2025 (BANGKOK) In a pre-dawn operation on Friday, Thai authorities detained 39 Chinese nationals who tested positive for illicit substances during a massive raid at a prominent Walking Street establishment.
The joint operation, involving more than 100 law enforcement personnel and Interior Ministry officials, descended upon Panda Club at approximately 3:36 AM, following concerns about patron safety. The raid was authorised by Chonburi Deputy Governor Chaiyaporn Paepiromrat after reports emerged of a Chinese tourist suffering serious injuries at the venue late last month.
Officers encountered roughly 300 revellers, predominantly Chinese tourists, still engaged in nighttime festivities when they stormed the premises. In a coordinated effort, authorities segregated patrons by gender before conducting identification checks and mandatory drug screening.
The operation yielded positive drug test results for 39 Chinese nationals – 19 men and 20 women – though a thorough search of the premises failed to uncover any illicit substances. The individuals who tested positive were subsequently transported to Pattaya Police Station for further investigation.
The remaining club-goers were permitted to leave, and notably, the establishment’s management faced no immediate legal consequences.
