15-10-2024 (SINGAPORE) A 34-year-old man has been sentenced to 12 weeks in prison for engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a minor. The incident, which took place in August 2022, involved the man and his girlfriend performing sexual acts in front of her seven-year-old son in a hotel room.
The couple, whose identities are protected by a court-ordered gag to safeguard the child’s anonymity, reportedly instructed the young boy to record their intimate encounter on a mobile phone. The child, who did not participate in the acts, complied with the request.
Further evidence presented to the court included a separate video showing the 33-year-old mother topless in a disabled toilet, with her boyfriend and son nearby. The relationship between the man and the boy remains unclear, with conflicting court documents suggesting he may be either the child’s father or the mother’s long-term partner who had assumed a paternal role.
The man, referred to as B1 in court papers, pleaded guilty to one count of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a minor under 16 years old. A second similar charge was taken into consideration during sentencing.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Chan Yi Cheng revealed that the couple had been in a relationship for a decade but were not married. Despite not cohabiting, the man would meet with the mother and son up to five times weekly.
The case came to light in early 2023 when the mother discovered the video of their sexual encounter on Facebook. The couple promptly alerted the authorities, denying any involvement in uploading the footage online.
