24-6-2024 (SINGAPORE) A 31-year-old man found himself in custody after a dramatic incident in the early hours of Monday (24 June) when his Mercedes collided with a truck at the Funan shopping mall taxi stand, leading to his arrest for suspected drink driving.
The incident, which occurred at around 6.55 am, was first reported by Shin Min Daily News. According to an eyewitness account provided to the Chinese daily, the white Mercedes sedan initially struck a truck, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle, which then careened into a bollard.
When reporters from Shin Min Daily News arrived at the scene, the aftermath of the collision was evident. The damaged Mercedes remained at the site, accompanied by several police vehicles and a tow truck summoned to remove the wrecked vehicle.
Photographs captured the extent of the damage sustained by the Mercedes, with the front of the car bearing the brunt of the impact. The hood had flipped open, and debris was scattered across the ground, a testament to the significant force of the collision. Additionally, minor dents and scratches were visible on the right side of the vehicle.
Onlookers at the scene reported witnessing the police conducting an alcohol test on the Mercedes driver, which allegedly revealed that he was intoxicated, leading to his immediate arrest.
As reporters surveyed the aftermath, they noticed a man with dyed brown hair lying on a bench near the taxi stand, appearing to be asleep. However, upon noticing the reporters, the man requested that they refrain from capturing photographs of him or his vehicle.
The Singapore Police Force later confirmed receiving reports of an accident involving a car, a truck, and a taxi at the location. In a statement, authorities revealed that a 31-year-old male driver had been arrested for drink driving and other traffic-related offenses.
Additionally, the 61-year-old truck driver involved in the incident is assisting with the ongoing investigation. While one person sustained minor injuries, they declined transportation to the hospital.
