2-7-2024 (SINGAPORE) A 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death of a 33-year-old individual whose body was retrieved from the waters of the Singapore River on June 30.
According to official statements from the authorities, the Singapore Police Force received a distress call on the evening of June 30 at approximately 10:15 pm, reporting that a man had fallen into the iconic waterway. Swiftly responding to the situation, divers from the Singapore Civil Defence Force’s Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team were dispatched to conduct a search and recovery operation.
Their efforts led to the grim discovery of the body of the 33-year-old man, who was pronounced deceased at the scene. Authorities have not released the identities of the individuals involved in this tragic incident.
Through comprehensive investigations, aided by the analysis of police camera footage and closed-circuit television images, law enforcement officials were able to identify and apprehend a 21-year-old suspect believed to be involved in the fatality.
The suspect is expected to face charges of causing death by rash act on July 2, as announced by the police. If convicted, he could potentially face a substantial prison sentence of up to five years, a fine, or a combination of both penalties.
