23-7-2024 (KUALA LUMPUR) Police in Johor have detained two additional suspects, bringing the total number of individuals in custody to five, in connection with the recent kidnapping of a six-year-old girl, Albertine Leo Jia Hui, last Saturday.
A female suspect was apprehended last night, while a 31-year-old male suspect was captured at 4:45 AM this morning in Batang Kali, Selangor, along with the kidnapped child.
Johor Police Chief, Commissioner M Kumar, confirmed that the child was found safely in a budget hotel and is currently undergoing a medical examination at a hospital.
“When found, the victim was unharmed, and there were no physical changes as claimed, such as her hair being cut,” said Commissioner Kumar during a press conference at the Johor Police Headquarters today. “We can confirm that the child has been found safe. Four suspects have been remanded for four days, while the suspect arrested with the child will be brought back to Johor to obtain a remand order.”
This morning at the Johor Bahru Magistrate’s Court, three suspects, including a woman detained in relation to the kidnapping, were remanded for four days.
Magistrate Suhaili Sapun issued the remand order after the police’s request. The remand period, effective from today until this Friday, allows for further investigation of the suspects under Section 365 of the Penal Code.
Earlier, two male suspects arrived at the Johor Bahru Court Complex at 8:45 AM, dressed in orange and purple lock-up attire, handcuffed and escorted by police officers. Ten minutes later, the female suspect arrived in orange lock-up attire, closely guarded by female police officers.
Yesterday, the three suspects, aged between 28 and 55, were arrested around 1:30 PM in the Gelang Patah area, Iskandar Puteri.
Albertine Leo Jia Hui was reported missing at approximately 8:30 PM last Saturday from the Eco Galleria commercial centre in Iskandar Puteri.
The case, initially classified as a missing person report, has been reclassified under Section 365 of the Penal Code for kidnapping and wrongful confinement.
