1-1-2024 (BANGKOK) A 17-year-old boy was fatally stabbed in a violent New Year’s Eve confrontation that left four others injured in Bangkok’s Bang Khun Non district early Monday morning.
The victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was found dead in a pool of blood at a four-storey apartment building on Soi Charansanitwong 45. Police discovered multiple stab wounds to his chest and right arm, with a trail of blood leading from the building’s entrance to where his body was found on the fire escape.
Detective Inspector Woraton Imwittaya of Bang Yi Khan Police Station said the incident occurred shortly after midnight during New Year celebrations. The victim was among a group of friends travelling on motorcycles when they encountered a rival group of teenagers who allegedly initiated the confrontation.
“We found two damaged motorcycles at the scene – an unregistered red Honda Wave 110i with a broken front fender and a white Honda Wave 125,” said Police Colonel Phayap Sombun, who is leading the investigation. “The physical evidence suggests a violent altercation took place outside before the victim fled into the apartment building.”
Four friends of the deceased were also injured in the attack and have been taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Their conditions are currently unknown.
Forensic teams from Siriraj Hospital and the Forensic Science Division have conducted a thorough examination of the crime scene, collecting evidence including the victim’s bloodstained clothing and personal effects.
Investigators are now reviewing CCTV footage from the area and waiting to interview the surviving victims once their medical conditions stabilise. No arrests have been made yet, but police say they are pursuing several leads in their manhunt for the perpetrators.
