8-8-2023 (BANGKOK) In a shocking turn of events, a 16-year-old girl has been apprehended in Kamphaeng Phet province for her involvement in human trafficking and the exploitation of minors in a prostitution ring. The arrest was made by the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB) team at a hotel located in tambon Nakhon Chum of Muang Kamphaeng Phet district.
The investigation was initiated by the Thailand Internet Crimes Against Children (Ticac) unit of the bureau, following a report received from Alliance Anti-Traffic Thailand. According to the findings, the teenage girl had been offering sexual services within the Muang Kamphaeng Phet district. Interested clients were directed to scan a QR code, which was posted on her Twitter account.
Once the client had scanned the QR code, the girl would then send them four pictures of teenage girls aged between 14 and 16 years old. To avail the services, the client was required to make a payment of 1,100 baht. This included a 200-baht deposit and 900 baht to be paid directly to the girl upon arrival at the chosen hotel.
Posing as a client, an officer from CCIB contacted the suspect and arranged a meeting at the hotel. The girl arrived at the location with the underage girls, and upon the exchange of money, she was promptly arrested by the authorities.
During the interrogation, the suspect admitted to working as a sex worker and revealed that she procured minors upon the request of her clients. As a result, she now faces charges of sex trafficking and child prostitution.
This distressing incident sheds light on the dark underbelly of human trafficking and the exploitation of vulnerable individuals, particularly minors. The authorities are committed to tackling such heinous crimes and ensuring the safety and well-being of the community.
