22-9-2023 (KUALA LUMPUR) 14 individuals, including two foreign nationals, have been apprehended in relation to the abduction of an Indonesian woman in George Town. The Penang police chief, Datuk Comm Khaw Kok Chin, provided details during a press conference at the state police headquarters.
The investigation was initiated following a report filed by the victim’s husband on September 15. He alleged that his wife was kidnapped on September 7 while vacationing in George Town with three friends. The husband revealed that the abductors demanded a ransom of RM540,000 for the safe release of his wife.
In response to the report, a special operation named Ops Scorpion Rantai was launched. This operation, conducted by both state and Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department, aimed to rescue the victim and apprehend the individuals responsible for the abduction.
On September 17, a significant breakthrough occurred when the police successfully rescued the 36-year-old victim and another individual, a foreign man, at a house in Shah Alam. Comm Khaw stated that the subsequent arrests of the 14 suspects took place between 6 a.m. and 10:30 p.m. on the same day in various locations spanning Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, and Perak.
