15-4-2024 (WASHINGTON) President Ferdinand Marcos Jr of the Philippines assured on Friday that recent business agreements forged with Japan and the United States would not impinge upon China’s investments in the country, seeking to allay any concerns regarding potential conflicts of interest.
Addressing reporters at a press conference in Washington following the summit, Marcos underscored the autonomy of the trilateral agreement, asserting, “This is separate from any proposed or potential Chinese investments in the Philippines. How do I see it, how will it affect? I don’t see that it will affect, one way or the other.”
The president’s remarks come amidst heightened attention on the Philippines’ diplomatic and economic relations, particularly against the backdrop of strategic partnerships with major global players.
