The visit aims to foster discussions on defense and security collaboration between the two nations.
Albanese is scheduled to meet President Ferdinand Marcos Jr on September 8, focusing on the reinforcement of joint efforts in defense, maritime security, and development. A statement released by Albanese’s office on Friday outlined the key topics of discussion for the upcoming meeting.
Highlighting the significance of the partnership, Albanese stated, “Our partnership with the Philippines is built on close defense and security cooperation, increasing economic relations, and warm personal ties.” The visit underscores the deepening relationship between the two nations, seeking to enhance their strategic cooperation and diplomatic ties.
The talks between the Philippines and Australia have gained momentum, particularly concerning potential joint patrols in the South China Sea.
